Qatar- ILS students stage Bugsy Malone

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) International School of London's (ILS) auditorium had a stage revival of Bugsy Malone, a musical set against the backdrop of a child-friendly version of the rambunctious gangster era of New York in the 1920s.

Students from six year groups strutted, sang and stormed their way through Bugsy's story and love interest Blousey Brown in three performances over two days.

The audience was treated to musical scores before the stage was seized by one of the rival mobs armed with rapid-firing, foam-filled 'splurge' machinery.

It was an evening of dancers, singers and tough gangsters.

The story unfolded at an energetic pace as the cast roared out tunes such as My Name is Tallulah; So You Wanna be a Boxer; and the sorrowful Ordinary Fool.

The show reached a splurging climax when Bugsy gets his girl and Fat Sam and Dandy Dan bury the hatchet. This has been the first full-length musical the school has staged. Many powerful performances packed a punch from beginning to end.

Director Anjie Schwartz said: "It was great to see students take ownership".
