Qatar- QRC celebrates Red Cross and Red Crescent Day


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) marked World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day over 10 days under the theme 'Our Principles in Action' in tandem with 188 national societies around the world.

The day is commemorated in May, under the umbrella of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent and International Committee of the Red Cross.

Thirty QRC volunteers held charitable and voluntary events for individuals, families, visitors to public places and parks and schoolchildren. Government and non-governmental institutions took part, including Community Policing and Traffic Police from the Ministry of Interior, Management of Awareness and Environmental Education from the Ministry of Environment, General Cleanness Department from the Ministry of Municipality (Baladiya), Al Quds Model Independent School for Boys and Al Maiz Restaurant.

Activities including planting of trees in Al Quds School in participation with students, clean-up of Sheraton Park, Montaza Park and Souq Waqif Park as well as parts of Souq Al Asiri and Baraht Al Jufairi and campaigns on road cleanliness in cooperation with traffic officers, and advising motorists at Landmark Mall.

More than 2,000 motorists, workers, students, women and children benefited.

Najat Al Haidous, Head, QRC Volunteers, said, "This work by volunteers aimed to encourage members of society improve their behaviour, cherish our traditions when dealing with the environment and public places, not to spit or throw waste anywhere, highlight the importance of keeping parks clean and educate motorists on traffic rules and safety.

He said QRC volunteers showed willingness to continue the campaign throughout the year and whenever necessary, as part of QRC's sustainable approach to its social and awareness programmes.
