(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatar International Court (QIC), the Ministry of Justice and BARBRI launched a collaboration to develop and deliver professional legal training in the country.
The first programme was held in the court from May 17 to 21. It was opened by Justice Dr Hassan Al Sayed, Faisal Rashid Al Sahouti, CEO, QIC, Maryam Yousif Arab, Manager, Legal and Judicial Studies Centre of the ministry, and Sarah Hutchinson, Managing Director, BARBRI.
The programme 'Litigating in Qatar International Court' enabled lawyers to litigate in the civil and commercial court with world-class skills.
Dr Al Sayed said QIC is doing everything it can to enable young lawyers to get to the level required to appear in the court. "We are happy about conducting this course in collaboration with the centre to train lawyers in advocacy, problem-solving and negotiation," he said.
Twenty lawyers participated in the course.
Dr Al Sayed said the course will introduce litigation procedures through classroom exercises, mock trials and role plays.
He said BARBRI is an established institution providing professional legal training for over 40 years and focuses on qualifying young lawyers to enter the legal profession. Around 80 percent of US attorneys are BARBRI alumni.
Maryam Yousif said the centre is honoured to open the door of cooperation with QIC to enable Qatari lawyers to appear in the court. Knowing procedural rules of the court will enable Qatari lawyers to carry out professional responsibilities easily, she said, adding the centre is looking forward through the experience of these courses to gaining the most out of international academics.
Hutchinson said: "As a global legal educator, BARBRI is committed to enhancing Qatari lawyers' professional skills. We are grateful for QIC's support which has enabled us to make the course happen."
