Kuwait, Peru eye closer diplomatic ties, cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Head of the Kuwait's fourth parliamentary friendship committee MP Yousef Al-Zalzalah met with President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru Ana Maria Solorzano in the Peruvian capital Thursday.

During the meeting, also attended by committee's members Dr. Abdullah Al-Teraiji and Saif Al-Azmi, the Kuwaiti committee discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation with Peru, MP Al-Zalzalah stated to KUNA, adding that the meeting also discussed a number of parliamentary issues, including parliamentary diplomacy.

MP Al-Zalzalah stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in bringing people closer and boosting relations in all fields with countries of the world, pointing out parliamentary diplomacy's effectiveness in establishing cooperation ties with other countries around the world.

The meeting also discussed ways to open a Kuwaiti embassy in Peru to enhance and boost Kuwaiti-Peruvian ties, the Kuwaiti lawmaker said, noting that his committee will continue talks alongside First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah with Peruvian officials to follow up with this subject.

The two sides also addressed supporting Kuwaiti investment in Peru, MP Al-Zalzalah said, adding that Peru has laws that protect foreign investments and provide several investment, infrastructure, and commercial projects that Kuwait could take part in following an approval by President Solorzano.

An official invitation from Kuwait's Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim has been handed to the Peruvian Congress' President to visit Kuwait officially and hold a number of MoU signing sessions between the two sides, said the Kuwaiti lawmaker.

The Kuwaiti parliamentary friendship group arrived in Lima, the Peruvian Capital, earlier coming from Honduran capital, Tegucigalpaon, after a four-day official visit.

Kuwait's Non-Resident and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Peru Reem Al-Khaled said that the parliamentarian delegation will meet with a number of counterparts in the Peruvian Congress, as well as several officials from the ministries of foreign and educational affairs, seeking to enhance bilateral relations in various fields.
