Airbus issues engine warning for its A400M military plane

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) European aircraft manufacturer Airbus Tuesday issued a warning regarding reliability of certain engine systems on its A400M military transport, after a fatal crash with one of the planes in southern Spain killed four people last week.

Several countries suspended flights of the A400M afters that accident near Seville and now Airbus has called on all A400M operators to test electrical control systems on engines before flight and at other periods.

Airbus said in a statement that it wanted to make sure A400M users "avoid potential risks in future flights" and they urged them to take "necessary actions" to avoid any risks.

The crash last week is now being linked to a failure or flaw in the plane's Electrical Control Unit, which manages how engines are powered.

Testing by Airbus has revealed problems which it has shared with operators and crash investigators, the statement said.

Turkey, Britain, Malaysia, Germany and Spain have already halted A400M flights pending the investigation results but the fate of orders by other potential customers has so far not been affected.

The A400M was developed to increase Europe's severely-lacking military transport capacity and is destined to be used by NATO countries but has also been sold outside of the Western Alliance.
