Britain welcomes Geneva dialogue on Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Tobias Ellwood on Thursday welcomed the planned UN consultations intending to restore the peace progress in Yemen.

"I welcome the UN Secretary General's announcement that consultations will start on May 29 in Geneva," Ellwood said in a FCO press release.

"These are intended to restore progress towards a sustainable, inclusive and Yemini-led political solution to the conflict.

"The UK fully supports the UN's vital efforts and backs their call for participants to engage in these consultations in good faith and without preconditions," he affirmed.

"I also strongly welcome the fact that, thanks to the recent humanitarian pause and the decision by the Government of Saudi Arabia to shift to targeted naval interdictions, critical food and fuel supplies have been able to enter the country.

"However, the humanitarian situation remains grave, and I urge all parties to the conflict to show restraint and enable sustained humanitarian access to allow life-saving aid to reach affected communities," he added.
