PALEMBANG May 21 2015 – The palm price in South Sumatra declined by around 2% in the first period of May 2015 compared to the price in the second period of April 2015.

Based on the data as reported by the Plantation Service of South Sumatra on Monday (5/18/2015) the lower price was made by fresh fruit bunch (TBS) and crude palm oil (CPO.

The average price of CPO in early May 2015 is IDR6985 per kg slightly declined by IDR154 per kg from IDR7139 per kg in May 2014.

According to a release of the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) South Sumatra CPO placed the 3rd for export value in the province.

BPS Head of Distribution Statistics of South Sumatra stated palm actually could be the largest contributor for export realization in the region replacing rubber once the price goes higher.

“Nationally the CPO export has exceeded rubber for non oil and gas group if CPO price could constantly increase it may place the first position for non oil and gas export in South Sumatra” he said Monday (5/18/2015).

Chairman of Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) of South Sumatra Sumarjono Saragih said it would be difficult for the economic growth in South Sumatra to depend on rubber or coal commodities.

“As we all know the rubber industry in South Sumatra is still sluggish from the price and non down streaming. We are helped by CPO export.”

Right now he said various business sectors in South Sumatra are weakening due to the low people’s purchase power. Meanwhile the plantation sector especially CPO is relatively maintained from the stable demand. Read more..
