(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) A World Health Organization official in Tanzania says a cholera outbreak has killed at least 30 people in a refugee camp for Burundians fleeing political unrest, AP reported.
Dr. Alphoncina Nanai told The Associated Press Thursday that the situation is constantly changing as hundreds of people flee Burundi every day amid unrest stemming from the president's bid for a third term.
'WHO' has warned that a 'severe humanitarian crisis' is unfolding in Tanzania because an influx of refugees is overwhelming health and sanitation facilities. It said between 500 and 2,000 Burundians are arriving daily in Kagunga, a tiny fishing village on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Cases of acute diarrhea have also been confirmed among the refugees, who include many women and children.
