(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The number of foreign workers in the public sector and government IPOs reached 560 foreigners during 2014, according to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) press statement.
The CAPMAS figures illustrate this is in comparison to 956 foreigners during 2013, and marks a decrease rate of 41.4%.
The decrease is due to the conditions experienced by the country after the 30 June Revolution, especially in the petroleum sector, CAPMAS added.
European countries represent the largest number of total foreigners working in the public sector, which reached 250 by 44.6% during 2014. Asian countries (non-Arab) comes in second place, reaching 124 with a rate of 22.1%, while numbers of foreigners from Oceania countries (Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand) reached only 18 foreigners (3.2%), according to the statement.
"The foreign workers of public bodies represent the largest number reaching 293 foreigners with the rate of 52.3% of the total number of foreign workers in the public sector and government IPOs in 2014, most of them work in ERTU (Egyptian Radio & TV Union) and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA)," the statement read. "165 foreigners work in the public sector and IPOs with a rate of 29.5% (mostly work in Metallurgical Industries Company)."
The statement explained that foreigners holding a university degree represent the largest number, reaching 312 foreigners with a rate of 55.7%, followed by foreigners with a pre-university degree reaching 158 (28.2%).
Specialists in the scientific professions represent the largest number of foreigners in governmental sector reached 314 foreigners (56.1 %), followed by 103 technicians and assistants with a rate of 18.4%, whilst scribes represent 17 foreigners amounted to only 3% of the total number of foreigners.
Article 3 of Minister of Manpower and Immigration Resolution 136/2003 in respect of the licensing conditions and procedures for foreigners to work, states that "the number of foreign workers in any facility and its branches is not permissible to exceed 10% of the total number of employees with the exception of those cases recognized by a decision of the Manpower Minister".
