Kuwait- Khafaji, Kandari Clinch 'Bottleneck Scenario' Titles

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Filipino Action Shooting Team (FAST) had another fun shootout competition. Ali Al Kandari found himself on top for the Professional Category followed by Omar Al Ansari, while Mishaal Al Khafaji bagged 1st place for the Standard Category with Chris Veitch in 2nd place in the weekly fun shooting competition, on Tuesday evening.

All the participants tried to display their excellent balance of speed and accuracy in order to finish on top, but only Mishaal Al Khafaji had both skills to top the Standard Category while Ali Al Kandari, one of the most admired shooter in the league returned to his best shooting form to stamp his authority on the Professional Category.

These weekly fun shoots would not be a success without the commitment of FAST officers and members. They are being guided by Range Officer Wilbert Zingapan and Sr Chief Instructor Eric Ragma to ensure the safety of all the participants joining the competition with the support of Gen Ahmed Al Saleem.

The "Bottleneck Scenario" was another brilliant design of FAST President Ronil Paul Garcia that was set-up with the help of FAST (Acting) Secretary Archie Cajucom, to ensure that the course of fire will be as challenging as always for the participants to have fun.

At the start of the fun shoot, FAST Treasurer Chris Veitch stressed to all the competitors that safety was the priority of both range and the organization.

The scenario was created wherein the charge line was positioned like a shape of a bottle neck on the floor, hence, the name "Bottleneck" was taken.

At the start of the course, the competitors were required to have the gun in condition 2, with one magazine in the pistol, the spare magazine in the pouch and the weapon is not loaded. The starting position placed the shooter tip of the bottleneck, with both hands on the wall where two targets are also placed.

Since the course of fire was set to be conducted in free style and the gunmen were required to engage the targets when these were visible, the gunslingers had the choice of either shooting two targets on the left or two targets on the right depending on their game plan but not the two targets on front.

Upon an audible signal, the gunslingers racked their weapons and initially engage two hard-covered targets located on the left and right, within the charge line - stepping on this line would result in the shooters being slapped with a procedural error - a deduction of ten points. Then they have to move in the designated box drawn on the floor at a distance of 7 meters located in the middle of the bottle-like charge line to engage two plate targets placed on the wall where the shooter started. Then the shooter has to run either to his left or right towards the end of the bottle-like charge line to engage two more targets on each side at a distance of 15 meters behind a low fence.

An aggregate scoring method is used to calculate the final score for each competitor with a bullet in Alpha earning 5 points, while in Bravo and Charlie brought 3 points and Delta 1 point.

The time taken to complete the shoot plays a major part in the standing as the total score is divided by the time taken over the course to get the result. Although the course seems to look easy as several shooters came home with a perfect shoot, some shooters find themselves with a lot of penalties due to missed shot or procedural error that resulted in a deduction of 10 points for each infringement.

The shooter can also be disqualified if he violates the gun safety handling rules. The shooter can elect to do another run or more but as a rule, only the first attempt of the competition will be considered final.

Standard Category

Khafaji went over the course with 37.60 seconds Hitting 13 Alpha and 7 Charlie that provided him with a perfect shoot and put him on top with a hit factor of 2.2872. Although it was his first time to be on the top of the fun shoot competition, expect him to be back next time to defend his title.

FAST Treasurer Chris Veitch was again back in action this week as his work permitted him to do so. Without any question, he is still one of the best "marksmen" on the range and he proved his point when he compiled the highest hit in Alpha with 16 and 4 Charlie that gave him 2.1405 hit factors and finished the course with 42.98 seconds gave him 2nd place.

Completing the "Tough Three" was captured by FAST Vice President Cesar Isidro, and hold on to his current position by finishing the course in 33.79 seconds and hitting all the alphabets with 11 Alpha, 1 Bravo, 6 Charlie, 1 Delta and 1 Mike which is good for 1.9828 hit factors.

Another shooter who maintained his position was Mohammed Al Shatti, the bravest shooter who always wanted to be the first one to step on the challenge and ended up with 13 Alpha, 6 Charlie but find himself with 1 bullet on Maverick under 38.37 seconds that puts him in 4th place and a 1.9025 hit factor.

Colum Cantillon, who has been absent from the range for quite a long time gave the course a good run and made a perfect shoot with his bullets landed on 12 Alpha, 7 Charlie and 1 Delta. Although he took longer than others to complete the course with 57.26 seconds, he still managed to collect a 1.4321 hit factor, proving that accuracy is the best strategy. He completed the "Magical Five" line-up.

Finding himself in a good condition, he gave the course another run but the first is considered to be his best shot as he only collects 11 Alpha, 4 Charlie, 2 Delta with 3 Mike as he tries to run a little bit faster than before which gave him a time of 40.66 seconds and a 0.9592 hit factor.

Muath Ahmad Al Qattan could have been in a better spot if he had not landed 3 mavericks on his scorecard together with 6 Alpha, 10 Charlie and 1 Delta who finished his run under 29.67 seconds that gave him a 1.0448 hit factor which is way below his weekly average.

Completing the "Magnificent Seven" for the night was no other than Ashley Grayston, who dropped one place from his previous week stint ended up with 44.71 seconds hitting 10 Alpha, 5 Charlie, 2 Delta but with 3 Mike and 1 procedural error that pulled his score down and gave him a 0.6039 hit factor.

Abdulrahman Al Sanousi who was top last week was also not in his best form tonight as he had 4 bullets landed in a miss and earned a procedural error but still managed to collect 11 Alpha, 3 Charlie and 2 Delta under 37.60 seconds which is good for 0.4255 hit factors.

Humoud Al Sabah, another shooter that fell short from his previous stint managed to collect 8 Alpha, 7 Charlie with 5 Miss under 29.51 seconds that gave him 0.3728 hit factors. He took another attempt and although he was given 2 procedural errors by stepping on the line, he still managed to collect 14 Alpha and 6 Charlie under 29.07 seconds which is far better than his first attempt and a 2.3392 hit factor.

There are two shooters who did not crossed the positive score tonight on the standard category and found themselves at the bottom list, Archie Cajucom seem losing his touch and not in his normal form as he suffered with a gun jam twice during his run that resulted to 5 Alpha, 2 Bravo, 5 Charlie, 3 Delta with 5 Mike and finished the course with 36.10 seconds.

Ali Al Habib required a bit of warm-up as his performance left him at the bottom of the table with a negative score when his bullets filled all the alphabets on the targets when he got 5 Alpha, 1 Bravo, 4 Charlie, 3 Delta and 7 Mike under 39.62 seconds It appeared that someone cast a spell on him during his 2nd attempt because it seemed that he had been "jinxed". Ali was slapped with 2 procedural errors as he stepped on the line but got hid rhythm back and proven himself right garnering 10 Alpha, 8 Charlie, 1 Delta and 1 Mike under 43.71 seconds, a hit factor of 1.0295.

With the above result, five shooters kept their place in the "Magnificent 7"- the group which separates the men from the boys. They were Veitch, Isidro, Al Shatti, Al Qattan and Grayston. They were joined by Khafaji and Cantillon who replaced Cajucom and Sunny Andrade.
