Education City Students Pass Oman Camp Test

(MENAFN- QNA) Trekking and living in the mountains of the Sultanate of Oman tested leadership and endurance skills of 25 students from Education City universities, event organisers said Wednesday.

The four-day camp in the mountains was part of Experience-Based Leadership Development Programme (EBDA) launched by Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Maersk Oil Qatar in September 2014.

Students camped in Jebel Akhdar mountain range in North West Oman. They took part in activities that tested endurance and personal skills towards the goal of developing into future leaders, organisers said.

Commenting on the Oman challenge, Maersk Oil Qatar Qatarization Head Sheikh Jassim bin Saud Al-Thani said, "At Maersk Oil Qatar, we strive to develop Qatar's future leaders. It is wonderful to see another group of talented students engage in activities that promote personal development. As we now come to the end of the programme's successful first year, I urge more students to make the most of these once in a lifetime opportunities and look out for a range of exciting programmes coming up as part of EBDA's second year." HBKU Director of Student Life Ameena Hussain said, "This leadership-building programme in Oman marks our final activity of the academic year. We congratulate students for completing a difficult challenge. HBKU Student Life will continue to develop such experience-based leadership-building events." The EBDA programme selected 25 students from over one hundred applications for the camp.

EBDA concludes its first year, with more than 300 students completing modules delivered in Qatar, Tanzania, Indonesia and Oman. Students from 30 nationalities took part in nine modules, ranging from team building challenges in Qatar, to community service work in Indonesia, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
