(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least nine people were killed on Tuesday after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a village in Nigeria's northeastern Adamawa State, according to local sources.
"A suicide bomber detonated a bomb in Garkida, killing at least nine people," village resident Abu Fagge told Anadolu Agency by phone.
"About 15 others were injured," he said.
The bombing occurred in Garkida village in Adamawa's Madagali local government area.
According to Fagge, confusion now prevails in the community, as government troops engage militants in fierce gun battles outside the village and other communities in Madagali, one of the local government areas recently liberated from Boko Haram by the Nigerian army.
Umaru Jindadi, another village resident, confirmed the attack.
"The suicide attack, which killed up to nine people, capped a spate of attacks around Madagali, which appears to be under a new siege by the militants," he told AA.
Defense spokesman Chris Olukolade likewise confirmed the bombing.
"Yes, there was a suicide bomb attack," Olukolade told Anadolu Agency.
But he stopped short of giving any numbers for the dead and injured.
On Monday, a man was killed and seven women abducted by suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Madagali's Sabon Gari community.
The Nigerian military € backed by Nigerien and Chadian troops € recently liberated all territory captured earlier by Boko Haram in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
