Jordanian King appoints Salamah Hammad as new Interior Min.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordanian King Abdullah II signed a decree Tuesday appointing Salamah Hammad as Interior Minister, succeeding Hussein Al-Majali who resigned last Sunday.

King Abdullah approved Hammad's appointment upon a recommendation by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, official news agency (Petra) reported.

Hammad held interior ministry portfolio twice, the first in 1993-95 and the second in 1995-96.

King Abdullah II had accepted Majali's resignation he tendered due to security agencies' failure to coordinate over citizens' security and stability.

Directors of the Public Security and the Gendarmerie departments were also dismissed.
