Qatari delegation attends crime prevention talks in Vienna

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A delegation from Qatar, headed by Major General Dr Abdullah al-Mal, Adviser to HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is attending the 24th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna.
The five-day session that started on May 18 ends on May 22, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release yesterday.

Participants are discussing topics on trafficking in cultural property and prisoner treatment.

Delegates discussed these topics last month at the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

The Congress accepted the Doha Declaration which lists several topics for further action and how these suggestions can contribute to the rule of law in UN's post-2015 agenda.

The session in Vienna covers topics on trafficking in illegal migrants, mercenary terrorists, radicalisation of youth, co-operation between governments and civil society groups, wildlife and forest crime, recovering stolen assets, and cybercrime.

Major General Dr Abdullah al-Mal said success of the 13th UN Crime Congress in Doha gives a good example of international unity on tackling common challenges and safeguarding common interests.

He listed record number of delegates, high-level events, adopting Doha Declaration and gathering Doha Youth Forum as successes of the UN Crime Congress.

The Doha Declaration is a strong political document that lays ground rules for the next five years and beyond. It supports promotion of criminal justice and crime prevention globally, he said.
