BALIKPAPAN May 19 2015–Bank Indonesia (BI) records the credit increase made by mining sector in Balikpapan up to 12.9% in QI/2015 from the flourishing oil and gas sector. In QIV/2014 the mining credit growth fell up to 1.38%.
Bank Indonesia Head of Representative office in Balikpapan Suharman Tabrani confirmed the credit increase was contributed by oil and gas instead of coal mining sector.
“With the breakdown of the data the increase was made by oil and gas mining service sector instead of the credit provision to non oil and gas mining” told Suharman in Balikpapan Friday (5/8/2015).
Although the credit to oil and gas mining sector gave a quite large contribution it’s not automatically makes the sector as a leading credit sector eyed by banks.
“Right now we are still not convinced whether the sector could be made as the leading one. We shall wait for the next development. Hopefully the sector could still grow in the next quarter” he said.
Generally the sluggish performance of mining sector in East Kalimantan had made the banking credit growth in business world service sector in Balikpapan dropped up to 33.9% in the first quarter.
In the previous QIV/2014 Bank Indonesia Representative office in Balikpapan recorded the lower growth up to 34.64%.
“The coal mining sector has been always a domain of their major consumers” he said.
However the business world service sector is included in three sectors with biggest market share of total productive credit disbursement in Balikpapan. The other two sectors with biggest markets are trade and mining sectors.
According to BI Balikpapan the trade sector gained the market share of 21.7% of the total productive credit disbursement followed by mining sector with 10.1% and business world service sector at 7.9%. Read more..
