Orris eyes return to Oman after Denmark win

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Defending National Bank of Oman (NBO) Golf Classic winner Max Orrin of England jumped to second spot in the Road to Oman rankings on Sunday when he claimed the title at the Made in Denmark Challenge tournament in Copenhagen Denmark.

The 21 year old who won his maiden Challenge Tour title at last year's NBO Golf Classic in Muscat sent a strong message that he is very much a star in the making by closing with a gutsy level-par 71 to win by one shot from Scotland's Andrew McArthur as swirling gusting winds wreaked havoc with the final round contenders.

'That was as tough as I have played in – it was pretty brutal out there at times' said Orrin who finished one over par 285 for the tournament to claim the US$30870 winner's cheque and take his season's earnings to US$34170.

South Africa's Haydn Porteous currently leads the latest Road to Oman rankings with US$36325 earnings.

Orrin has put himself in strong contention for a return to the spectacular Almouj Golf at The Wave Muscat - the scene of the two-stroke victory in the 2014 NBO Golf Classic which first put him in the Challenge Tour spotlight.

The event has since been elevated to become the season-ending finale known as the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final where the top 45 players in the newly coined Road to Oman Rankings will battle it out for one of 15 coveted cards for next season's European Tour and a prize money of US$397000.

The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final will be held from Wednesday November 4-7.

Orrin said 'I will be doing everything in his power to ensure a return to the sultanate.'

'To get a win so early in the season is a big positive as well' he said. 'It gives me a great chance to go and get my European Tour card through the Challenge Tour so I'll probably be focussing on that for the rest of the season.

'Because it's only the fourth tournament of the season and I have got myself up to the top of the rankings early it feels like I can have a great run at making my card so hopefully the wins and top fives can keep coming.'

The 2015 Road to Oman will take in 25 tournaments in 19 different countries.

The Road to Oman will offer a bonus pool of US$65000 for the top three players on the Road to Oman rankings at the conclusion of the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final.

The leading player on the rankings will receive a US$32500 share of the bonus pool.
