UN envoy, GCC chief mull coordination to revive political process in Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh discussed Monday with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani coordination between the UN and the GCC to resume the political process in Yemen.

In a press statement following the talks, the GCC General Secretariat said that the meeting tackled cooperation to push forward the peaceful political process in Yemen on the bases of the GCC initiative, outcome of the national dialogue and the relevant UN resolutions.

It added that Al-Zayani and Ould Cheikh discussed the humanitarian situation in the conflict-ravaged Arab country and intensifying efforts to deliver humanitarian needs to Yemeni people.

Separately, the GCC chief met Monday the ambassadors of the 14h Group member states in Yemen.

During the meeting, Al-Zayani discussed with the diplomats the international efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Yemen and the efforts to offer humanitarian and relief aid to Yemenis.

The 14th Group comprises the six GCC member states, the five permanent UN Security Council member states, in addition to Germany, Holland and Turkey.
