(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) have discussed strengthening cooperation in supporting a green economy in Dubai and the sustainable development of the Emirate.
This came during a meeting headed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, Saeed Alabbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, and a number of EmiratesGBC Board Members, held at DEWA's head office in Zabeel East. It was attended by DEWA's Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents, and senior officials from both organisations.
Al Tayer emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation and joint work between DEWA and EmiratesGBC, saying that DEWA is committed to sharing the best global practices and experiences in developing and improving green technologies and sustainable practices with its partners. This enhances Dubai's leadership as a global hub for trade, finance, and sustainability.
"At DEWA, we work to achieve the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021 to promote sustainable development and the infrastructure of the UAE and ensure the highest sustainability standards. We do this by enhancing energy efficiency, encouraging the conservation of natural resources, and reducing waste and the carbon footprint. These are key characteristics of the transition to a green economy," Tayer said.
"Today, DEWA has discussed with the Emirates Green Building Council ways to promote the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030. We have established Etihad ESCO to promote the optimal use of energy, improve the energy efficiency market, and retrofit over 30,000 existing buildings in Dubai. This is intended to implement the energy-efficiency contracting model to underline our commitment to support the development and sustainability of green projects. It will enable government and private organisations to reduce consumption, as per international best practices, to encourage organisations to take a leading role in retrofitting buildings," he added.
