Qatarisation vital for future: Al Sada


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, yesterday stated that Qatarisation is key to sustain the country's prosperity. Through Qatari human development, the country will forge pathways that would provide Qatari youth challenging opportunities and ensure a prosperous future.

The Minister was chairing the 15th Annual Qatarisation Review Meeting that discussed the energy and industry sector's accomplishments in the field of Qatarisation.

The meeting was attended by Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, President of Qatar University, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Petroleum, as well as senior executives and representatives from each of the 40 participating companies in the sector's Strategic Qatarisation Plan. Also present at the event were the senior executives from Qatar's education community.

In support of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016, the meeting attendees listened to presentations highlighting the energy and industry sector's progress in managing its Qatari human capital strategies.

In his opening address, Dr Al Sada thanked the academic institutions in Qatar for their continuing critical support in the sector's Qatarisation drive.

The Minister also emphasised the importance of a vocational path and encouraged those present to "do more to expand efforts to attract and retain Qatari technicians and increase intake." This is seen as key to determining the success of the energy and industry sector's Qatarisation programme. Dr Al Sada further urged companies "to add more Qatari women to the workforce."

At the meeting, a high-level review of Qatgarisation in the energy sector was presented by Sheikh Faisal Al Thani, Deputy General Manager of Maersk Oil Qatar; Abdulaziz Al Mannai, Executive Vice-President for Human Capital of Qatar Petroleum; . Hyatt Al Shihri, Administration Manager of Bunduq Company Ltd; and Dr Ken McLeod, President of the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar. This was followed by an Executive Statistical Report.

Dr Al Sada and Al Kaabi then presided over the 7th Annual Qatarisation Awards ceremony, which honoured companies that exhibited Qatarisation excellence during 2014. The recipients of the coveted Qatarisation Crystal Awards were Oryx GTL Limited for Support and Liaison with the Education Sector; Maersk Oil Qatar for Supporting Qatarisation; Dolphin Energy Limited for Support for Training and Development, Qatar Petrochemical Company Ltd (Qapco) for Supporting student sponsorships, and RasGas Company Limited for Best Qatarisation Progress.

Annual Qatarisation Certificates were also presented to Qatar Chemical Company Ltd (Q-Chem) for support and liaison with the education sector; Qatar Steel Company for supporting Qatarisation; Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) for support for training and development; and Bunduq Company Limited for supporting student sponsorships.

Al Sada honoured Qatar University with the annual "Partnership Award of Appreciation," which was accepted by Professor Al Misnad, in recognition of the university's active partnership with the energy and industry sector by exchanging knowledge and expertise and providing a rich resource of Qatari candidates in support of company Qatarisation plans.
