Maersk Oil wins top award for Qatarisation

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) has been recognised for supporting the nation's Qatarisation efforts, as the winner of the crystal award for 'Overall best support to Qatarisation' at the annual Qatarisation Review Meeting of the Energy and Industry Sector's Strategic Qatarisation Plan. The high-profile event was attended by Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Eng Saad Sherida Al Kaabi and senior industry officials.

MOQ's Managing Director Lewis Affleck said: "We are extremely proud to receive this award for our significant Qatarisation efforts. Together with Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil operates the Al Shaheen field, Qatar's largest and one of the world's most technically complex offshore oilfield developments, which currently produces around 40 percent of Qatar's oil. The field will be producing oil for many decades to come and Qatari nationals will continue to play a central role in managing this important national asset. This award is testament to our continued focus on developing our Qatari workforce and the specialists and leaders of the future".

Maersk Oil has made firm progress towards its Qatarisation goals following the introduction of a new Qatarisation Strategy in 2014, aimed at increasing the number and calibre of Qatari employees.

The strategy focuses not only on hiring nationals, but critically on developing leadership capacity via mentoring and bespoke training courses and through provision of further educational opportunities. The company is also committed to delivering high quality social projects that are aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and which support the State's sustainable development. These include its social investment programme, 'Action on Education' which supports local education, skills and capacity creation, particularly focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines and leadership development to help enable diversification and a knowledge-based economy.

Sheikh Jassim Al Thani, Head of Qatarisation at Maersk Oil Qatar said:

"This award will surely inspire us to continue to develop the appropriate programmes and approaches to support our Qatari colleagues' career development. Having operated in Qatar for over two decades, Maersk Oil has developed unrivalled knowledge, experience and expertise in the Al Shaheen field, such that those who work for our organisation, are specialists in Al Shaheen. Maersk Oil is a strong partner of the State of Qatar in its execution of the country's Strategic Qatarisation Plan. This commitment includes the provision of extensive opportunities for our own employees to develop their skills and experience, in addition to attracting the right Qataris to come and work at Maersk Oil Qatar. We continue our firm commitment to Qatarisation in accordance with the Energy and Industry Sector's Strategic Qatarisation Plan".

A key element of MOQ's Qatarisation strategy is their 'Find Your Place' recruitment campaign, which features real employees sharing their experiences of working at Maersk Oil, to help attract more Qatari talent and to encourage more interest in offshore roles in particular.
