Qatar keen on promoting children's theatre arts, says Culture Minister

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari has underlined Qatar's keenness on promoting children's theatre arts due to their great impact on people.

In an interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Minister of Culture said that theatre arts in general are at the top of the priorities of Qatar National Vision for 2030 and the five-year national cultural development strategy (2011-2016).

As part of the national cultural strategy, a committee was formed last year to prepare for the first children theatre festival in Qatar.

The Minister explained that the Qatari government seeks to develop a national programme for raising cultural awareness, noting that real cultural sustainability cannot be achieved without cross-generational awareness.

He added that the Qatari youth are the most concerned segment in the society with these programmes as they are the producers and beneficiaries of cultural products.

"The Qatari government is looking forward to building a lively society through harnessing the skills of people with artistic talents and setting cultural education programmes for children in schools," Minister al-Kuwari was quoted by KUNA as saying.

He said that these programmes aim to boost people's creativity, cultural knowledge and their critical thinking and communication skills.

He pointed out that six theatres were built across the nation in the past few years, including one for children and one for youth.

"The government is ready to offer all required support and to employ all capabilities to develop the theatre arts in general and children's theatre arts in particular in Qatar," the Minister of Culture stressed.
