5.0 quake occurs in Sea of Oman No risk of tsunami, says expert


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was felt in the Sea of Oman at 3.16pm on Sunday.

The Seismological Centre at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has confirmed the quake saying that its epicentre was close to Iran some 242km off the Muscat coast in the Sea of Oman.

'We had an earthquake around 3pm in the Sea of Oman. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out into the sea' an official in the SQU centre said adding that there was no risk of tsunami or aftershocks.

Last month three minor quakes ranging between 2.5 and 3.0 on the Richter scale occurred  in the Sea of Oman. However they did not cause any damage.
