Algerian Pres., Tunisian PM discuss Libya

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Algerian President Abdulaziz Bouteflika received Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid late Sunday to discuss the bilateral ties and the situation in neighbouring Libya.

The meeting gathered Algerian Prime Minister Abdulmalek Sellal and other ministers from both countries.

Speaking to Algeria TV after the meeting, Essid said the talks provided an opportunity to share views with President Bouteflika on a range of political and economic matters.

"The Libyan issue featured heavily in the talks," he said, noting that Tunisia and Algeria hold identical views on how to resolve the political and security crises in their eastern neighbor through diplomatic means.

"All Libya's neighbors back up the UN mediation among the Libyan parties to reach a mutually-acceptable political settlement to the crisis," he affirmed.

Later on Essid, who started a two-day official visit to Algeria yesterday, held talks with Sellal on cooperation in various fields with emphasis on the border security.

"Algeria and Tunisia share the concern over the turmoil in sisterly Libya, and encourage the Libyan parties to form a national unity government under the UN umbrella," Sellal told reporters following the meeting.

"The visit of Prime Minister Essid to Algeria is very important for the efforts of the two countries to take their partnership to a higher level and promote integration in such vital areas as energy, commerce, tourism and industry," he pointed out.
