IDB Statistics Centre survey industries
Abu Dhabi: The Industrial Development Bureau or IDB at the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Statistics Centre-Abu Dhabi is gathering data on licensed industries in Abu Dhabi.
Engineer Ayman Al Makawi director general of the Industrial Development Bureau said: “The project to list industrial establishments aims at documenting the real manufacturing activity through a comprehensive technical database. After the completion of the project the data will be updated through different systems of regulatory authorities to issue licenses.”
The field work for the first phase of the project has already begun last March and survey teams are visiting industrial establishments to collect data and check the actual situation at each factory. Al Mikawi stated that the field work extends to three months during which 11500 commercially licensed establishments will be visited.
It is expected that the first phase of the project will end in early August 2015.
He noted that intensive training programmes that include statistical and technical aspects for work field management have been completed and work is under way to arrange and distribute field work teams in different regions in Abu Dhabi where many work centers have been setup in Abu Dhabi Al Ain and the Western Region. All licensed industrial establishments at the Industrial Development Bureau will directly enter the second phase without the need to apply the first phase. The total number of industrial licenses that can be made an exception is 1350 industrial licenses.
Mishal Al Hammadi business director at the Statistics Center-Abu Dhabi said: “It has been agreed to conduct field work during the first phase through the questionnaire to be set in light of discussions between concerned parties.
The project will end late 2016 after the accomplishment of its second phase that will determine the scope of the targeted sample and will create a new questionnaire form that achieves the survey goals. This will be based on collecting detailed data from establishments and assessing this data technically in the first phase which is administrative technical financial and environmental.”
International statistics methodologies require comprehensive surveys to be conducted every five to 10 years in order to correct any wrong estimates and provide an accurate reference for decision makers.
