Qatar- Ministry 'keen to serve disabled'


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani stressed the ministry's continuing interest to serve people with disabilities as part of the country's keenness to integrate them into society.

The Minister announced the commencement of a new era in the ministry's interaction with its customers with disabilities, particularly those with hearing disabilities, owing to their equal rights and duties.

He was speaking at the graduation ceremony of Phase II of the 'Adaptation of the Sign Language for Dealing with People with Hearing Disabilities, which was held from May 3 to 14 for the ministry's customer service staff.

The Minister also stressed that rehabilitating customer service staff to adopt the sign language programme is the beginning of activities to qualify them for interacting with people with hearing disabilities.

He praised Qatar Cultural and Social Centre for the Deaf for cooperation in implementation of the first and second phases of the programme.

Omar Al Yafei, Director, Public Relations and Communications Department, Jabr Abdullah Al Attiyah, Director, Human Resources Department, and Saleh Al Marri, Director-General of the centre were also present.

The Minister presented certificates of appreciation to Ali Obaid Al Sennari, Chairman, Qatar Cultural Centre for the Deaf, received on his behalf by Al Marri and several instructors

The ministry organised Phase I of the programme from September 21 to October 2 last year.
