Rival Cypriot leaders sit again at negotiating table
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The President of the Turkish northern sector of Cyprus, Mustafa Aknici, on Friday held a new round of conciliation talks with his counterpart who rules the Greek-administered southern part of the Mediterranean island, Nicos Anastasiades, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The meeting was held at a UN office in Cyprus, with attendance of Espen Barth Eide, the UN Secretary General's Advisor, the Turkish news agency reported, but mentioned no details about the summit talks.
Eide, last Monday, declared that the top-level conciliation talks would be resumed today. The leader of the Greek part declared his withdrawal from the peace talks in October after Ankara deployed warships at Mediterranean spots rich in oil and gas. The two leaders adopted, in February, 2014, a joint declaration to pave way for resumption of the UN-backed negotiations.
Latest round of these discussions had been held in March 2011. They were inconclusive due to divisions over sharing of power and property possession.
