UAE Spain to boost trade links


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Ambassador of the UAE to Spain Dr Hessa Abdullah Al Otaiba and a number of members of the FNC attended the meeting.

Madrid — Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr speaker of Federal National Council or FNC has met with Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce Spain’s Secretary of State for Trade Manuel Gomez Acebo Undersecretary at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Joaquim Gay de Montella Vice-President of Madrid Confederation of Employers and Industries or CEIM as well as Spanish business leaders and representatives of the coutnry’s major companies.

Al Mur hailed the Spanish people’s support for exempting Emiratis from the Schengen visa requirement for travelling to EU countries. He said this support reflects cooperation and friendship between the UAE and Spain and the compatible visions and political will of the two states for bolstering bilateral relations and promoting ways of preserving their interests in areas of common interest.

Al Mur stressed on the UAE’s desire in both the private and public sectors to expand economic and investment cooperation. He noted that trade between the UAE and Spain grew more than 90 per cent between 2009-2014 to reach €1.9 billion. He noted that 40 Spanish registered companies and 73 trade agencies operate in the UAE with 1456 trademarks from the European country.

“The UAE hopes to forge a strategic economic partnership that reflects the real potential of the economies of the UAE and Spain” Al Mur said noting that the UAE-Spain Joint Economic Committee which was established in 2010 is a main booster of economic cooperation.
Noting that the UAE and Spain are vital trade gateways for the Middle East Australia Europe and the Americas. — Wam
