(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Authorities at Cairo International Airport on Friday barred eight Egyptian women from travelling to Turkey, saying they had failed to obtain prior security permits, a security source has said.
The Interior Ministry has informed airport authorities that Egyptian women between 18 and 40 would be subject to the same regulations as men who wished to travel to Turkey, an airport security source, requesting anonymity, told Anadolu Agency.
This, the source said, means Egyptian women within this age group must first obtain a permit from Egypt's Passport Administration before travelling to Turkey.
Last December, the Egyptian authorities declared that "any citizen who wishes to travel to Turkey, Libya, Syria, Qatar, Yemen or Iraq must receive the approval of airport security or from the Passport Administration to allow him to travel directly."
"These procedures apply to citizens aged between 18 and 40, with the exception of individuals who hold residencies in these countries, businessmen, official delegations, and those who are married to people of foreign nationality."
Relations between Egypt and Turkey deteriorated severely after the ouster by the army of elected Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013, with both countries downgrading their respective diplomatic representation.
