Kuwait to participate in ITU's 150th anniversary with commemorative stamp


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait will take part in the 150th anniversary of the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Sunday with a commemorative stamp to document this event.

Ministry of Communications Undersecretary Hamid Al-Qattan said in a press statement on Saturday that this year's celebrations will be under the theme of communications and information technology - powers for innovations.

The ITU seeks through this event to achieve several goals through shedding light on contributions of information technology and communications to pushing innovation and stimulating economic and social development, he added.

These celebrations are an opportunity to share views on the future of information technology and communications to overcome challenges required so as to expand their horizons and enhance cooperation, he noted.

The Ministry of Communications commemorates this anniversary through shedding light on development of information technology and communications through media outlets and social networking sites, he made clear.

The ITU has been playing a distinguished role over 150 years that attracted a number of countries, governmental bodies and private companies for its membership, he said.

Al-Qattan noted that Kuwait has been an active member in the ITU Council since 1982 and allocates about USD one million every year to support the ITU's works and technical studies, adding his country will do its best to contribute to providing better services.
