Etihad says top US carriers received USD70b in subsidies

(MENAFN) Etihad Airways said that the US government has provided America's three biggest airlines with more than USD70 billion in benefits and concessions, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline has itself come under attack from US rivals over subsidies. Last year, the three largest US carriers posted profits of almost USD9 billion, half the gains by the entire worldwide aviation.

"US airlines have received benefits valued at USD71.48 billion, more than USD70 billion of which has been since 2000, enabling the nation's three largest carriers to transition from the verge of bankruptcy," Etihad said.
