Qatar- SEC on recruitment spree for teachers

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Education sector regulator, the Supreme Education Council (SEC), has embarked on a recruitment spree for teachers for Independent Schools for the next academic year that begins in September.

Interviews and tests of some 856 applicants for teaching positions in various subjects are beginning today at Al Khaleej Training Centre in Old Airport neighbourhood of the city.

The maximum number of applicants (149) is for the positions of English teachers, followed by mathematics (113), Arabic language and literature (98) and computer science (49).

Only 10 applications have been received for chemistry teachers, 15 for biology, 13 for physics, 22 for geography and 25 for history. Pay scales and perks as well as working conditions for Independent School teachers are one of the best in the region.

The tests and interviews are expected to continue until May 23 and one of the tests could involve a demonstration by applicants of their teaching skills to check their ability to communicate.

There are special committees that will be conducting the tests and interviews for the applicants subject-wise and on these panels will be sitting experts like human resource officials from the SEC, besides the operator and director of schools.

These interviews are aside from the extensive ones the SEC and its committees have conducted for teachers of different subjects in countries like Egypt, Jordan and Sudan to recruit teaching staff for the Independent Schools for the next academic year.
