Qatar- Nine illegal vendors held


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Inspectors from Doha Municipality caught at least nine illegal vendors in Souq Haraj (the popular second-hand goods market) in Najma during a clampdown launched in collaboration with the Search and Follow-up Department of the Ministry of Interior and Public Hygiene Section of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. In a separate drive, the inspectors also caught 10 illegal vendors in the Industrial Area and got them arrested. Legal action is being taken against them, head of technical monitoring section at Doha Municipality, Ali Nasser Al Hajri, said.

Few cases of forged currency notes

DOHA: Some 340 economic offenses were reported in the country in the latter half (July to December) of 2014 and just a small percentage of these cases were related to attempts to circulate forged currency notes, Lieutenant-Colonel Ali Hassan Al Kubaisi said.

Head of Economic Offenses Combating Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ministry of Interior, Al Kubaisi said that preventive measures taken by his department are actually responsible for low incidence of economic offenses, especially circulation of counterfeit currency notes.

He told Police Magazine Asshurta Ma'ak (The Police With You) that nearly a few cases of counterfeit currencies caught here involved foreign currencies. A number of people have been arrested tryingto circulate fake currency notes, he said.

There have been cases of people forging bank cheques and many have been arrested while trying to get cash from banks using forged cheques they signed in the names of companies and individuals.

Plan to amend housing law

DOHA: The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs which boasts a housing Unit that is responsible for giving away free plots of land to eligible Qataris and helping them obtain soft state loans to build houses is amending the housing law and reviewing conditions of eligibility for the beneficiaries of the state housing scheme, reports Al Sharq.
