New Report Available Internet Retailing in Bulgaria

Due to declining employment and economic stagnation over the review period domestic demand in Bulgaria weakened considerably. Over time large numbers of consumers adjusted their spending habits towards purchasing during promotions. In 2014 internet retailers delivered many promotions – culminating with the second edition of Black Friday. Some of the discounts and advertising on these occasions proved to be manipulative as attested by an investigation of the Competition Protection Commission which imposed record fines – but the approach was effective and drew consumers to online stores.

Competitive Landscape

The two largest consumer electronics retailers – Technopolis (Videolux OOD) and TechnoMarket Europa (K&K Electronics EAD) contributed most to sales growth in 2014 due to staging a second edition of Black Friday. Internet retail revenue at TechnoMarket Europa surged by 135% over the prior year and sales at Technopolis jumped 69%. As a result the combined share of both retailers jumped from 24% to 40%.
