Unity is a must

(MENAFN- Arab News) Due to the strong Arab response to the unrest in Yemen the situation in the Middle East has taken a new turn. Iran must have been taken off guard as it had least expected such a reaction from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab countries. Since the beginning of the so-called Arab Spring Iran had been testing the patience of the Arab world by continuously fomenting unrest in various Arab countries. I fail to understand the Iranian expansionist designs. Instead of working for the welfare of its own people the Iranian regime appears to be more interested in driving a wedge between communities in other countries. Of course these adventures need continuous flow of funds. The same funds could be used for the development of Iran and for the progress of Iranians. The mullah regime in Tehran holds centuries-old mindset of conquering lands by force. Unfortunately Shiites in the Arab world have been duped into believing that Iran is the sole protector of their interests. Truth be told forces or regimes with expansionist designs are not sincere with anybody. They simply use people to promote their own interests.

Dividing the region along sectarian lines will not bode well for its people. Unity is the key to progress. Arabs belonging to all sects or faiths should realize that their interests are interlinked. A turmoil-ridden Iraq will affect both Shiites and Sunnis. This unrest and continuous civil war will not affect Iran a bit. The same goes for Syria Yemen and every other country of the region.

Instead of fighting along sectarian lines all Arabs should forge unity among their ranks and say no to Iranian interference in their respective countries and work together for the development of their countries. Parvaiz Khan Jubail
