Arab Health Minister to Meet in Geneva Next Week


(MENAFN- QNA) Arab Health Ministers will meet in Geneva on the sidelines of the 68th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), due to be held from May 16 through 23.

The Arab League will participate in this meeting with a delegation headed by Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs Ambassador Badr Eddin Alali with membership of Minister delegate Leila Najm who is the Arab League's Director of Health and Humanitarian Assistance.

In a statement she gave today, Najm the General Secretariat delegation will head to Geneva on Saturday to participate in the Arab ministerial meeting, scheduled to be held on May 17 and 18 on the sidelines of international meetings that extend through 23 of the same month.

She added that the meeting of Arab Health Ministers will discuss a number of important topics foremost of which being the humanitarian situation in Yemen and how to provide all forms of support to Yemeni Health Ministry, assigning the technical secretariat to explore ways to deliver the aid in coordination with the Saudi Ministry of Health, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the provision of financial support by Arab health ministers to contribute to the urgent needs of medicines and medical supplies to the Yemeni Ministry of Health.

The ministers will also discuss the urgent needs of displaced Syrians in Jordan and Lebanon in the light of a report prepared by the Arab League delegation that visited camps of displaced persons in both countries recently, as well as a report by the Palestinian Health Minister on health conditions of the Arab population in the occupied Arab territories.
