Arab League, UNESCO Agree to Boost Cooperation


(MENAFN- QNA) Arab League and the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) agreed to boost cooperation in the cultural and educational fields and work to protect heritage and civilization, especially in areas of conflict in regional countries.
During his meeting with UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova on Thursday, Arab League Secretary General Nabil El-Araby said that there are many joint ventures between the two entities.
On ways of addressing Israeli occupation violations against Palestinian heritage and the deliberate destruction of civilization in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya by Daesh group, El-Araby said the meeting discussed violations against heritage in all areas of conflict, whether in Palestine, Iraq, Syria or Yemen.
For her part, Bokova said the meeting dealt with ways to expand the areas of cooperation, notably in the cultural aspects, preserving heritage in addition to protecting youth from extremist ideas and paying attention to education, stressing the importance of achieving peace, ending conflict and realizing economic and community development.
