(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Senate Democrats in the United States filibustered yesterday to stop the first major free trade deal vote in years proposed by US President Barack Obama, who had pleaded with his own party to back him on his top domestic priority for his final years in office.
Senate Democrats voted with a majority of 52 against 45 a proposal to open a debate on a draft law intended to prevent Congress from amending the text of any future free trade agreements negotiated by the Democratic president.
The draft needed the vote of 60 to overcome the filibuster.
