Water Minister highlights USAID support


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Water and Irrigation Minister Hazem Nasser voiced the Jordanian government's appreciation for the support by donor countries, in particular the United States (US), in confronting the crisis faced by the Kingdom while hosting Syrian refugees.

The minister's remarks came during a meeting with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) head in Jordan, Beth Paige and the Water Resources and Environment Office head in Jordan, Melissa Knight on the occasion to mark the end of her tenure.

He said that the US support has had a positive impact on the water sector in the light of the challenges faced by it.

He added that the agency's support to the water sector stood at $200 million during the last five years and the agency will provide another $165 million in the next five years to implement a host of projects.

Paige expressed her country's desire to expand the cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, especially water and environment.
