(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, met with a number of German intellectual, political and academic leaders on the sidelines of his working visit to German.
During the meeting held at the German Korber Foundation, His Majesty spoke about challenges in the Middle East and the latest developments in the region and the world.
His Majesty emphasized that terrorism and extremism is the most prominent challenge threatening security and stability in the Middle East and called for addressing this threat through a holistic strategic approach in various dimensions.
The King stressed that the war on terror is a war within Islam and against a group of Khawarij (outlaws) and their heinous crimes which have nothing to do with Islam. He underlined the important role religious institutions in the Muslim world and the West can play in clarifying the true image of Islam and its message of tolerance.
Turning to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, King Abdullah said the international community is required to intensify efforts to reach a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which is the core of the conflict in the Middle East.
King Abdullah called on all international stakeholders to set the ground for the revival of the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis.
With regard to the Syrian crisis, His Majesty renewed Jordan's call for a comprehensive political solution to the crisis and said it is still the only way to end the suffering of the Syrian people.
In this context, the King spoke about the massive burden being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting nearly 1.5 million Syrians on its territory and providing them with humanitarian and relief services. He said the international community is required to intensify its support for the Kingdom to enable to continue providing services to the refugees.
