(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A Senior jailed Muslim Brotherhood member died on Wednesday, two days after he was admitted to hospital against the background of his deteriorating health condition.
Farid Ismail had suffered health complications over the past two months, his lawyer said.
He had been admitted to hospital two days ago, but died today, lawyer Mohamed Abu Huraira told Anadolu Agency.
A security source, meanwhile, denied reports about the presence of medical negligence behind Ismail's death.
He said Ismail died at the hospital as a result of hepatic encephalopathy.
"He was at the prison, but when his condition made it necessary for us to move him to hospital, we moved him," the source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.
Nevertheless, Abu Huraira accused prison authorities of neglecting his client's health condition and preventing him from receiving foods and medicines.
Earlier Wednesday, Ismail's son, Mohamed, accused the prison authorities of preventing his father from receiving medicines or undergoing any medical tests.
"My father is moved from a bad hospital to a worse one," Mohamed wrote on Twitter.
"His exact health condition has not been decided yet, because he has not undergone any medical examinations," he added.
Ismail, 58, was a member of the executive office of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party. He was also a member of parliament.
He was put in the southern Cairo al-Aqrab prison on charges of involvement in violence following the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July of 2013.
