Capacity of wastewater plant in Ajman to double

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The plant upgrade would allow treating an additional 60 million litres of wastewater per day.

Ajman — The Ajman wastewater treatment plant is set for major expansion after Ajman Sewerage Private Company Ltd (ASPCL) a public-private partnership between the government of Ajman and two international firms Besix and Veolia signed a deal aimed at expanding the treatment plant capacity by 50 per cent.

The construction contract has been awarded to Six Construct and the upgradation works are expected to be completed before the end of 2016. Work at the treatment plant located in Ajman’s Jurf Industrial 1 will begin soon and cost Dh160.0000.

Speaking at the signing ceremony ASPCL general manager Christophe Ledur said the plant upgrade would allow treating an additional 60 million litres of wastewater per day.

“We continue to constantly monitor the residential and commercial property market in Ajman with the aim of ensuring that ASPCL in close collaboration with Moalajah — the operator of the Ajman sewerage system — has adequate infrastructure and capacity to collect and treat the surplus wastewater by expanding the plant’s treatment process significantly” said Ledur.

“By expanding the treatment plant ASPCL will also increase the production of treated water which if utilised fully will reduce the emirate’s reliance on borehole and desalinated seawater.”
