Photography exhibition in Milan depicts Oman's natural heritage


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The 'Oman Harvest beyond Landscapes' photography exhibition began at the Society for Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition (Società per le Belle Arti ed Esposizione Permanente) in Milan Italy on Tuesday.

A press release stated that the exhibition features 50 images taken by 19 photographers from around the world. As part of the Milano Expo 2015 the exhibition is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Oman Air.

Addressing the gathering on the opening day Rania Khodr director of the tourism office of the Sultanate of Oman in France said 'The special bond between traditions and respect for the environment is the best way to present a tourist destination that has made sustainability and nature protection one of its strong points.'

Massimo Tocchetti the president of AIGO and the Italian representative of the tourism office of the Sultanate of Oman said 'We chose Milan to show the general public a land that treats its natural resources as its most precious resource something to be preserved promoted and enhanced.' Underlining the artistic value of the exhibition Anna Premoli the exhibition's curator said 'The idea behind this exhibition was to provide a highly varied narrative with close ties to the country and particularly its natural heritage. The aim was to recreate a spontaneous environment including through the exhibition's striking setting which recalls Oman and describes it to visitors offering them the excitement of an authentic Omani experience even if only for a few seconds.'

Khalid al Zuhaimi director Juma Mohammed deputy director and Gianluca Marcangelo public relations director of the Oman pavilion noted names from the tourism industry and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: Harvest in all meanings of the term ranging from fishing to agriculture; Landscapes from the expanses of desert to the villages in the hinterland; People focusing on human experiences that help to create and feed the country; and Flow with images that narrate the plentiful water that flows in the ancient aflaj that feed the fields and are the lifeline of the oases and flow into the sea.

The exhibition will conclude on May 27.
