(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has called for greater cooperation among the 28 NATO member countries on the Syria crisis.
Opening the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Turkish Mediterranean province of Antalya on Wednesday, Davutoglu said the conflict had created a threat to his country's national security as the militant Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) "is right on the other side of the border." "We see an increasing violence of terrorism at our doorstep," as the ISIL threat grows, he said, noting that Turkey is "the only NATO country that shares a land border with ISIS-controlled areas, the terrorist organization is a direct threat to our national security." In order to eliminate ISIS in Syria and Iraq, which should be seen as a single theater of operation, the international community needs to better cooperate and coordinate its response, he said.
On Afghanistan, the Premier said that Ankara had offered USD 60 million for the financial sustainment of the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces from 2015- 2017.
As for development in Ukraine, Davutoglu said that the crisis there "showed us how fragile security and stability is in Europe." "While extending our hand to Ukraine, we should not forget particularly the sufferings of the Crimean people," Davutoglu added.
\For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the future of Syria and Iraq necessitates clearing the region from terrorist organizations through decisive policies. Ankara has put forward many proposals in that respect, he added.
