Institute to hire firm for assessment of schools in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Education Institute will appoint a specialised company to conduct an assessment of all private schools in Qatar and fix the fees accordingly, an official said yesterday.

Aisha Mohamed Saleh Abdulrahman al-Hashemi, assistant director, private schools affairs at the Education Institute, told the education committee of Qatar Chamber (QC) that the new system of fees will be enforced based on the outcome of the proposed assessment.

A set of financial, technical and other indicators would be considered and schools will be supplied with guidelines. Any potential increase in private school fees would depend on the financial data and school's academic status such as academic approval and degree of satisfaction among the beneficiaries and teachers.

The Education Institute also has a plan to evaluate all private schools and kindergartens in the country to ensure quality education. Any approval of increase in fees will be subject to the outcome of the classification of schools based on the results of the evaluation.

On allotment of government land to private schools, Al-Hashimi said that there is shortage of adequate land within Doha and most approvals were given for plots outside Doha.

Generally, plots of land would be given to private schools for development, according to the results of the assessment conducted by SEC in the upcoming period.

Regarding the schools with affordable education fees, she said that the recommendation of QC will be taken into consideration. QC has earlier recommended that these schools should be given more support by the Supreme Education Council (SEC).

A meeting, presided over by Dr Saif bin Ali al-Hajari, deputy head of the education committee, urged authorities to give more financial incentives to Qatari investors in education sector.
