S. Korea's unemployment rate at 3.9 percent in April


(MENAFN) A government report showed that South Korea added new jobs by the lowest rate in 26 months in April, with its unemployment rate unchanged at 3.9 percent from a year ago, Xinhua reported.

The number of those employed totaled 25.9 million in April, up 216,000 on-year, according to Statistics Korea. It was the lowest growth since February 2013 when the economy created 201,000 new jobs.

The country's job creation has headed down after peaking to 835,000 jobs in February of 2014. During the first three months of the year, the total employment increased to more than 300,000.

The unemployment among the youth edged up by 0.2 percent to 10.2 percent last month, marking a drop from 10.7 percent registered in March, but still higher that any April figure for 16 years.
