Jordan's PM opens ALECSO conference


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The 5th extraordinary session of the general conference for the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), organized by the Ministry of Education, was launched today.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour opened the conference, which is expected to discuss the 2017-2022 ALESCO future action plan to achieve multi-dimensional development and the development of educational, cultural and scientific aspects of the ALECSO Programme, Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported today Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Mohammad Thunaibat said the conference aims to adopt a future work draft plan for ALECSO for the next five years.

He also said he plan was formulated following a comprehensive review of previous plans and after studying the best international experience and practices of similar organizations, in order to achieve the ALECSO member countries' ambitions and aspirations to build Arab individuals who own skills and attitudes that enable them to participate in the development of their society, educational, cultural and scientific institutions.

He noted the importance of redrawing and developing education, culture and science major objectives to focus on building a community based on peace dialogue, tolerance, and acceptance of the other, thus creating a mutual understanding in public interest and committed to democracy and freedom of thought, renouncing violence and extremism, whatever their sources.

Algerian Minister of National Education Nouria Benghebrit, who presided over the conference, stressed the importance of quality education through customizing pedagogical tools in terms of educational content and methodologies of teaching and putting the learner at the heart of the educational process.

Also, the Algerian minister underlined the need to raise the performance and professionalism of teaching staff and school administration after achieving the target of compulsory education in the Arab world and making it free and democratic.

Director-General of ALECSO, Abdullah Hamad Mohareb, said the Arab world is in crisis that has almost changed its identity, stressing that the most dangerous crisis to have shook the Arab world is the intellectual and religious extremism.
