EU suspends GE USD14.1b acquisition of Alstom

(MENAFN) European competition officials have suspended their review of General Electric's proposal of USD14.1 billion acquisition for the energy business of French rival Alstom, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

GE believes the suspension is procedural and does not signify a major obstacle to winning approval, with GE willing to explore remedies to get the deal done, a GE spokesman said in a statement.

"We have been notified by the Commission that they have temporarily stopped the clock on the investigation process," he said. "We continue to have a constructive dialogue with the Commission."
