Omani women set up title clash against Indonesia


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Omani women's team defeated Malaysia 2-1 to set up a title clash with host nation Indonesia at the ISSF International Tennis Championship in Palembang on Sunday.

Fatma al Nabhani led the charge for Oman defeating Malaysian player Jawariha Nurudin 6-1 6-3 in the championship organised by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF).

Oman was dealt a setback when Sarah al Balushi lost to Yous Shazline 1-6 0-6. But the sultanate clinched the decisive doubles clash as Fatma and Sarah beat the Malaysian pair of Jawariha and Yous 4-6 6-0 10-8.

Oman had a forgettable day in the men's event getting knocked out of medal contention after losing to Malaysia 1-2.

In the singles Omran al Balushi lost to Syed Mohamed 1-6 0-6 and Younus al Rawahi succumbed to a 4-6 2-6 defeat against Zinyan Abdin Mohamed. The lone consolation victory for Oman came in doubles play when Younus and Omran beat Syed and Zinyan 6-0 6-0.
