PDO condoles loss of former colleague

Dear Colleagues

We deeply regret to announce the death of our hugely admired and respected former colleague the Honourable Khalfan bin Mohammed al Esry which occurred late last night. The funeral took place this morning. Hon Khalfan made an impressive contribution to both Oman and PDO.

He was a member of the State Council and had previously spent 19 years working at PDO joining in 1987 as a Marmul mechanical supervisor. He had a number of important technical and non-technical roles including Head of Construction at Mina al Fahal and Construction Manager for the Saih Rawl LNG station.

Throughout his management Hon Khalfan focused on safety ensuring no damage to assets or injuries to people and this led to a move to head the HSE Department. He was also responsible for the company's Omanisation programme where he contributed to Omanising senior management positions.

In 2006 Hon Khalfan left PDO's service and started his own business which covered management consultations services education and the oil sector. He enjoyed great success inside and outside the sultanate mixing Arabic culture in management with other cultures.

He was also a well-known figure in community-related activities and was involved in youth development and was an Islamic scholar delivering regular lectures in the masjid.

This helped him gain the confidence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said who appointed him to the State Council. Condolences for men are at Masjid Salim bin Rashid al Kharusi in Al Mawaleh and those for ladies are at the house of the deceased at Al Hail. May Allah rest his soul in peace. Our sincere condolences go to his family and friends.
