Syrian opposition nat'l coalition announces boycott of Geneva talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces Tuesday announced boycott of UN-sponsored talks in Geneva, but would send one of its members to meet UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura.

Haitham Al-Maleh, Chairman of the Legal Committee, will deliver a letter to de Mistura on the importance of compliance with communique of the 2012 Geneva I conference, the opposition said in a statement.

Al-Maleh will also deliver another message to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon through the UN office in Geneva.

Head of the opposition group Khaled Khoja announced at a news conference in Istanbul yesterday that the coalition would participate in the Geneva talks.

De Mistura said the Geneva talks would feature participation of 40 political and military opposition groups, religious and tribes leaders, neighboring countries and UN agencies.
